Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan Announcement in Union Budget 2024-25

Central government is going to launch Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan soon. PM Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan in Union Budget 2024-25

Finance minister presented Union Budget 2024-25 on 23rd July 2024. While delivering the budget speech, FM said "For improving the socio-economic condition of tribal communities, we will launch the Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan by adopting saturation coverage for tribal families in tribal-majority villages and aspirational districts. This will cover 63,000 villages benefitting 5 crore tribal people."

PM Janjati Unnat Gram Abhiyan on Lines of PM-JANMAN Scheme

Similar to the PM JANMAN Scheme for PVTGs, central govt. is going to launch PM Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan for Scheduled Tribe (ST) category people. The scheme, designed after the PM-JANMAN to achieve saturation of basic facilities for Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups, will be for Scheduled Tribe populations across the country. The Finance Minister said in her Budget (2024-25) speech on July 23, without going into the details for how much funds are being set aside for this or how this package would be implemented or overseen.

Crucial Interventions under Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan

PM Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan or ST Development Mission aims to provide crucial interventions such as:-

• Permanent housing,
• Road connectivity,
• Piped water supply,
• Mobile medical units,
• Hostel construction,
• Anganwadi facilities,
• Skill development centres,
• Electricity connections,
• Solar street lighting, and
• Mobile towers.

Aligning existing schemes like PM Awas Yojana (PMAY), Grameen Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), and the health mission aims to encompass all eligible beneficiaries. These interventions fall under ministries of health, livelihoods, tribal affairs, and telecom, among others.

Moreover, ministries like Ayush and skill development and entrepreneurship will offer additional support. The ministry of Ayush intends to establish Ayush Wellness Centers and extend Ayush facilities through mobile medical units.
