Subhadra Yojana Cabinet Approval Date

Subhadra Yojana, one of the key promises in BJP's election manifesto, was approved at the first state cabinet meeting on 12th June 2024. BJP government has earlier committed to implement the project within 100 days of assuming office.

Govt. said it is working on some crucial questions surrounding the scheme’s eligibility criteria. As per the BJP manifesto, the scheme promised to benefit all women residing in Odisha, irrespective of their economic status and domicile. The population of women in Odisha, as per the 2011 Census, is 2,07,62,082. Hence, state govt may need to allocate over Rs. 80,000 crore in its budget to cover more than 2 crore women beneficiaries. It has sought partial funding from the Centre to implement the Subhadra scheme.

"We are working on the modalities to consider if it will apply to all women or those aged 18 years and above, or one woman in every household. We will also take a call on whether women staying outside the state would be considered or not. Whether working women will be included and their income criteria, will also be taken into consideration," a senior govt official said.

Although govt has emphasised the vouchers can be used to enhance women's socio-economic status, including education, healthcare and entrepreneurial ventures, a concrete list of permissible expenditures will be ascertained in the final guidelines.
