Tamil Nadu government has launched Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam Scheme 2024 for welfare of its citizens. Under this scheme, the state govt. will provide healthcare services to people at their doorsteps. Initially, this scheme was launched in August 2021 and then in Feb 2022, CM distributed medicine kits to 50th lakh beneficiary. Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam Scheme in Tamil Nadu Budget 2024-25

On 19 Feb 2024, Finance Minister presented Tamil Nadu Budget 2024-25. While delivering the budget speech, FM said "The State has already achieved the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) related to maternal and child health, set to be accomplished by 2030, through consistent and sustained efforts of the Health and Family Welfare Department. To reduce the increasing incidence of non-communicable diseases in Tamil Nadu, it is crucial to control high blood pressure and diabetes, which are the main contributors to the overall increase of these diseases. With this objective, the Government of Tamil Nadu is implementing the 'Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam' programme. A sum of Rs. 243 crore will be allocated for this laudable scheme to provide healthcare services to people at their doorsteps".

Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam Scheme in Tamilnadu Budget 2023-24

On 20 March 2023, Finance Minister delivered Tamil Nadu Budget Speech 2023-24. While presenting the Tamilnadu Budget 2023-24, FM says "Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam scheme will be extended to industrial workers, which will also benefit migrant workers".

About TN Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam Scheme 2024

TN Chief Minister MK Stalin has launched Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam, doorstep health care scheme through video conferencing. This scheme aims to eliminate need for patients to visit hospitals for treating non-communicable diseases. It includes those patients who are suffering either from high blood pressure or diabetes which is major contributor to non-communicable diseases.

Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam Scheme Objectives

According to a government order, the ambitious Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam Scheme aims to cover 1,172 health sub-centres, 189 primary health centres and 50 community health centres across 50 universal health coverage blocks in the state. Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam or the doorstep healthcare scheme aims to not only provide required medications at the doorsteps of the citizens but also take medical services right to their homes.

Management of Medical Supplies in Tamil Nadu

After launching the scheme for doorstep delivery of healthcare services, chief minister MK Stalin is personally taking stock of the medical supplies. The records of stock of each medicine that will be sent to the residences of those patients diagnosed with hypertension and diabetes is maintained. Moreover, special focus is given on those patients and senior citizens in the state who require physiotherapy.

Eligibility Criteria for Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam Scheme

  • Applicant must be a permanent resident of Tamil Nadu state
  • All those patients diagnosed with non-communicable diseases including high blood pressure and diabetes are eligible.
  • The applicant should possess their doctor's report.
  • Only after doctor's prescription, one can avail benefits of doorstep delivery of health services.

Launch of Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam Scheme 1st Phase

The ambitious scheme was launched in August 2021 at a cost of Rs. 258 crore to ensure access to medicine and healthcare, at the doorstep, for persons with comorbidties, the disabled and elderly.
