Tripura government has launched CM Jan Arogya Yojana (CM-JAY) on 15 Feb 2024. Under the CMJAY scheme, around 4.15 lakh families including government employees who are not covered under PM-JAY will get the benefit of health insurance coverage of Rs. 5 lakh each. Chief Minister Jan Arogya Yojana is required because medical emergencies come unannounced and being protected under health cover is no longer an option but has become a compulsion. 

CM Jan Arogya Yojana is designed in such a way that the patient's family will get free medicine for 15 days even after discharge from government or private hospitals and the entire process will be cashless. The hon'ble CM also mentioned "Initially there may be problems in implementing the universal health insurance scheme as it happened with the PM-JAY but these issues will be addressed to ensure the benefit reach the targeted people. We promised to offer medical insurance to the people in last year's Budget speech and the government delivered it".

About Tripura Chief Minister Jan Arogya Yojana (CMJAY) 2024

The state govt. of Tripura has launched Chief Minister Jan Arogya Yojana (CM-JAY) under which 4.15 lakh families in the northeastern state will get an insurance coverage of Rs. 5 lakh. While launching the CMJAY scheme, Mukhyamantri said "People become helpless when medical emergency emerges. Many people who are not covered under PM-JAY visit me with a plea for financial assistance to meet exorbitant medical expenditure. It has become a constraint for me to help all these people. This has led me to think of an alternative arrangement for those people who need help for treatment. It is indeed a historic moment for the state that we are rolling out CM-JAY to help the people with a healing touch to those who need assistance from the government. Under the scheme, each enrolled family will get health insurance of Rs 5 lakh annually".

With the launch of CMJAY scheme, Tripura becomes the first northeastern state to have introduced universal health insurance coverage for all. Under PM-JAY, around 5.12 lakh families of the state are covered but there is no health insurance provision for around 4.15 lakh families of the state. This scheme namely CM-JAY will ensure all the families of the state get health insurance benefits. This is a historic and brave decision keeping in mind the state's limited resources. A sum of Rs. 69 crore has been provisioned in the Budget for implementation of the universal health insurance scheme.

CM Jan Arogya Yojana in Tripura aims to provide universal health care and financial protection to all citizens of the state. It is organized around providing a specified package of benefits to all members of a society with the end goal of providing financial risk protection, improved access to health services, and quality of healthcare system.

• Improve affordability - CMJAY will enable the bottom 44% of the population to afford and access secondary and tertiary care including pre-hospitalisation and post-hospitalisation expenses.
• Improve accessibility - CM-JAY will enhance access to medical care along a continuum of care. Through the network of empaneled public and private hospitals, responsibility will rest with supply side especially in the private sector.

Eligibility Criteria for Chief Minister Jan Arogya Yojana

All the beneficiaries of Tripura who are not covered under AB-PMJAY, BoCW, CAPF, PM JANMAN or any other government insurance scheme are covered under CM-JAY scheme. Each family included in this scheme will get health insurance benefits up to Rs. 5 lakh per year. The scheme will provide cashless, paperless health insurance benefits to patients. 

Under AB-PMJAY, beneficiaries can seek treatment at all listed government and private hospitals in the state and outside the state. CM JAY scheme has no membership requirement under the eligible family and there will be no age limit for the beneficiary.

All pre-existing diseases will be covered in this CM Jan Arogya Yojana. State Government employees who surrender existing Medical Allowance and Medical Reimbursement will also be included in the Chief Minister's Jan Arogya Yojana.

How to Apply Online for CMJAY Scheme in Tripura

• First of all, visit the official website of CM Jan Arogya Yojana.
• On the homepage, click at "Apply" link.
• Upon clicking the link, the CMJAY online registration form will open.
• Fill in the asked details accurately and upload necessary documents as mentioned above.
• Review your filled in information in the application form through online mode.
• Finally, click on the "Submit" button to send your application to the concerned authorities for approval.

Once approval of application is done, eligible applicants will be selected and then they will start getting health insurance benefits.
