About Prithvi Vigyan Scheme 2024
Central govt. has launched Prithvi scheme which would be implemented b/w 2021-26 with an outlay of Rs. 4797 cr. The scheme encompasses 5 ongoing sub-schemes whose names are as follows:-- ACROSS,
- O-SMART,
- PACER,
- SAGE and
- REACHOUT
Objectives of PRITHVI Scheme
The main objectives of Prithvi Vigyan Scheme are as follows:-
- To augment and sustain long-term observations of the atmosphere, ocean, geosphere, cryosphere and solid earth to record the vital signs of the Earth System and change.
- To develop modelling systems for understanding and predicting the weather which further helps in knowing the science behind climate change.
- To promote exploration of polar and high seas regions of Earth towards the discovery of new phenomena and resources.
- To promote developing technology to explore harnessing oceanic resources for societal applications.
- To translate knowledge and insights from Earth systems science into services for societal, environmental and economic benefit.
The overarching scheme of PRITHVI will holistically address all the five components of earth system to improve the understating of the Earth System Sciences and to provide reliable services for the country.
The overarching scheme of Prithvi Vigyan will enable development of integrated multi-disciplinary earth science research and innovative programs across different MoES institute.
