Telangana Rajiv Aarogyasri Scheme Latest Update

22 July 2024 Update: Telangana government has increased Aarogyasri Health Scheme budget to Rs. 487 crore. There would now be 163 new medical procedures in the Rajiv Aarogyasri Scheme. Out of these, 98 procedures would be provided by Ayushman Bharat PM Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) and 65 by the state govt's Arogyasri. Moreover, there will be a 20% hike in the packages provided to hospitals to implement the Rajiv Aarogyasri Scheme.

The increased cost of services which includes a) the extension of coverage cost from Rs. 5 lakh to Rs. 10 lakh which was announced in December 2023 and b) the increased number of procedures will together cost the exchequer Rs. 487 crore. For this, the government has decided to increase the budget by 54%. The total number of medical procedures covered under the Rajiv Arogyasri scheme is 1835 after this addition. The rates have been revised for 1,375 existing services out of 1672 being covered under the scheme. The rates of remaining 297 services will remain unchanged. This will cost the government Rs. 140 crore more.

Rajiv Arogyasri Scheme in Telangana Budget 2024-25

10th Feb 2024 Update: Finance Minister presented Telangana Budget 2024-25 on 10th February. While presenting the budget, FM said "Rajiv Aarogyasri has been revamped and we have doubled the limit for medical treatment from Rs. 5 lakhs to Rs.10 lakhs. In addition, to ensure uninterrupted medical treatment to the needy, we have released pending dues under Arogya Shri. This measure will provide the much needed succor to the patients who were adversely affected by stoppage of treatment owing to pending dues to hospitals".

FM added "A healthy population is an asset to the State. Timely an effective medical treatment will add to the wealth of the state. Earlier, Congress government had launched a very popular and innovative scheme - Rajiv Arogya Sree to provide free medical care upto Rs. 5 lakhs to eligible families. Our government has doubled the threshold for medical treatment to Rs. 10 lakhs. This will provide succour to many needy families in view of the increased rates of medical treatment".

About Telangana Rajiv Aarogyasri Scheme 2024-25

Telangana government is now implementing Rajiv Aarogyasri Scheme 2024-25 which was earlier announced by hon'ble leader of opposition Sh. Rahul Gandhi. It was included in the TS election manifesto (Abhaya Hastham) released by Congress Party on September 18, 2023. Under this plan, the party has pledged to offer health insurance of Rs. 10 lakh to citizens.

Rajiv Aarogyasri Scheme is a part of the "Telangana Cheyutha Scheme" according to Congress Manifesto.

• The Rajiv Aarogyasri Scheme's primary goal is to give health insurance facility to citizens.

Cabinet Approval for Rajiv Gandhi Aarogyasri Scheme 

Soon after taking oath as the chief minister, A Revanth Reddy held the first Cabinet meeting of the Congress government on 7 December 2023. On that day, the Cabinet decided to implement two out six guarantees that the Congress announced for the people of Telangana in its manifesto ahead of the Assembly polls.

The two guarantees - free travel for women in TSRTC buses across the State and the Rajiv Aarogyasri health insurance scheme (for all citizens) which provides Rs. 10 lakh assistance to the beneficiaries - were launched on December 9, the birthday of Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

Detailed discussions on implementation the other four guarantees - Rythu Bharosa, Gruha Jyothi, Indiramma Indlu and Yuva Vikasam - were held in due course of time.
