Telangana Mahalakshmi Scheme 2024: The Congress Party released their Election Manifesto (Abhaya Hastham) for the recent assembly elections. As a part of Congress 6 guarantees, they have pledged to implement six programmes if they win power in this manifesto. Among those six schemes is the Mahalakshmi scheme. Mahalakshmi Scheme in Telangana Budget 2024-25

On 10th February 2024, Finance Minister presented Telangana Budget 2024-25. While presenting the budget, FM said "Free RTC Bus Transport Facility under Mahalakshmi Scheme was launched by our government on 09 December 2023. The women of the State are extremely happy about this facility. To ensure smooth implementation of the scheme, we have provided funds to TSRTC to the tune of Rs.300 crores each month and we will continue support the scheme".

FM added "Women constitute 50 per cent in the society. Hence women empowerment should not be confined to only a select few. This is precisely the reason why the Congress allocated a Lion’s share of its promises in its Manifesto for the welfare of the women. On December 9, 2023 we have launched Free RTC Bus travel facility toall the women of the state. The women of the State are extremely happy about this wonderful facility and are lauding it. In an effort to make women self reliant we will strengthen the Women Self Help Groups (SHGs) under Indira Kranthi Patham Scheme".

About Telangana Mahalakshmi Scheme 2024

Rahul Gandhi made the announcement to start the Telangana Mahalakshmi Scheme. They announced their election manifesto (Abhaya Hastham) on September 18, 2023, and this plan is included in it. Under this plan, the party has pledged to offer 2,500 monthly financial assistance to women and gas cylinders at the rate of Rs. 500 per LPG cylinder.
In addition to this, there would be free travel for women in all TSRTC buses across the state.

Cabinet Approval for Free Travel for Women in TSRTC Buses 

Soon after taking oath as the chief minister, A Revanth Reddy held the first Cabinet meeting of the Congress government on 7 December 2023. The Cabinet decided to implement two out of the six guarantees that the Congress announced for the people of Telangana in its manifesto ahead of the Assembly polls.

The two guarantees - free travel for women in TSRTC buses across the State and the Rajiv Aarogyasri health insurance scheme which provides Rs 10 lakh assistance to the beneficiaries - will be launched on December 9, the birthday of Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

Detailed discussions on implementation the other four guarantees - Rythu Bharosa, Gruha Jyothi, Indiramma Indlu and Yuva Vikasam - would be held in due course of time,” he said and made it clear that all the guarantees will be implemented within 100 days.
