Gujarat government has launched Mukhyamantri Shramik Basera Scheme on 18th July 2024 for which more funds were allocated in the recently presented budget. The new Mukhyamantri Shramik Basera Yojana aims to provide lodging facilities equipped with basic amenities near work place to construction workers. The CM also launched a portal for the Shramik Basera scheme, the release said. While addressing the event, the CM said the scheme will benefit about 15,000 construction workers once the facilities are ready. Accommodation will be provided to construction workers for a daily rent of Rs 5 per person.
In the next three years, more such dwelling centres will be built across Gujarat for the benefit of about 3 lakh construction workers. The project will cost Rs 1,500 crore, he said. Gujarat Shramik Basera Yojana 2024-25 Launch Details
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel launched the 'Shramik Basera Yojna' to provide temporary accommodation to nearly 15,000 construction workers at a nominal rate of Rs. 5 per day on Thursday. As per the official release, the CM performed the bhoomi poojan ceremony of 17 dwelling structures to house the labourers in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Vadodara and Rajkot cities in the first phase.The CM also launched a portal for the Shramik Basera scheme, the release said. He wrote on X, "Under the 'Shramik Basera Yojana', the state government aims to provide accommodation facilities to around 3 lakh laborers by preparing temporary accommodation near various Kadianakas of Gujarat in the next three years". "The workers will get accommodation facilities including clean water, a kitchen, electricity, CCTV, toilets, street lights, security, sanitation, and medical facilities", he added.
"Along with the housing facilities, food will also be provided under 'Shramik Annapurna Yojana' and facilities including free health check-ups will also be arranged," CM wrote in Gujarati in a post on X. He said, the move is aimed at bringing about a "qualitative change" in the living standard of workers from the unorganised sector and construction workers, by "providing them with food, health, housing and financial support.
The registered worker has to present the identity card or smart card (e-Nirman card) as a construction worker to get assistance and the identity card or smart card should be renewed on time.

Mukhyamantri Shramik Basera Scheme Eligibility
The construction workers registered with the Gujarat Building and Other Construction Worker’s Welfare Board and their families will be eligible to benefit from this scheme.The registered worker has to present the identity card or smart card (e-Nirman card) as a construction worker to get assistance and the identity card or smart card should be renewed on time.
Shramik Basera Yojana in Gujarat Budget 2024-2025
Finance minister has presented Gujarat Budget 2024-25 on 2 February 2024. While delivering the speech, FM said "A provision of Rs. 200 crore to set up Shramik Basera to provide accommodation to construction workers near the work sites".
Shramik Annapoorna Yojana in Gujarat Budget 2024-25
FM also said that under the Shramik Annapurna Yojana, 273 centres are currently running to provide healthy meals to the labourers at a nominal rate of Rs. 5. In these centres, on an average more than 40,000 labourers eat every day. Under this scheme, 100 new food distribution centres will be started. A provision of Rs. 131 crore for this scheme.
Mukhyamantri Shramik Basera Scheme in Gujarat Budget 2023-24
Finance minister has presented Gujarat Budget 2023-24 on 24 February 2023. While delivering the Gujarat budget speech, Finance Minister said "The government has taken special measures to provide assistance to the poor and needy people under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana to build house with basic amenities and toilets adopting saturation approach in a time bound manner. We aim to provide house to all the remaining eligible families in next three years. Taking the journey of inclusive and balanced development forward, I declare 'Mukhyamantri Shramik Basera Scheme' for the welfare of the construction workers. Lodging facility equipped with basic amenities near the work place will bring happiness to the family of workers".
