At the official Punyakoti Dattu Yojane portal, you can adopt a cow, donate to a goshala and feed a cow. Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, Karnataka state govt. is the nodal agency for implementation of cow adoption scheme.
Thus, state govt. brought in Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act 2021 to preserve and ensure protection of abandoned, rescued, confiscated, sick and injured cattle. Govt. is setting up goshalas in every district in addition to providing financial assistance to private goshalas.
As the next step in the endeavour to preserve our cattle wealth, the Government has announced the Punyakoti Dattu Yojana. It is a unique programme to give an opportunity for the people to join hands with the govt. to care for our cows and make our goshalas "atma-nirbhar". Punyakoti Dattu Yojana 2024 is a flagship cow adoption programme of Karnataka government.
For eons, cows have played a fundamental role in our lives. Known by many names such as punyakoti, kamadhenu, gomata, etc. cows are considered sacred in the Indian culture.
There are more than 200 private and government goshalas in Karnataka that are home to approximately 45,000 cows that are abandoned, rescued, old or sick. In caring for the cows, the goshalas exhibit abundant commitment. While the government spends money each year to care for these cattle, public participation is necessary for ensuring absolute care for the cows.

Punyakoti Dattu Yojana portal is a platform for you to "adopt a cow", "donate to a goshala" and "feed a cow".- Adopt a Cow - If you want to adopt a cow, you can provide for Fodder, Nutritional supplements, and Health checks and medicines for a year by contributing Rs. 11,000/ cow. You can also choose the duration varying from 3 months, 6 months, 9 months or a year, up to 5 years.
- Donate to a Goshala - You can donate to Goshalas to help Meet their maintenance costs like washing of cows and disinfection of premises. Donation to goshala would also result in development of infrastructure like cowsheds, water harvesting structures, etc and enabling research and development of eco-friendly products made from cow dung and cow urine.
- Feed a Cow - You can opt to sponsor fodder for a cow for one day! This is also a unique way to make a small yet meaningful contribution to mark special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries in your life. Every rupee received will make a difference!
How to Adopt a Cow in Punyakoti Dattu Yojana
If you want to adopt a cow, follow process below:-
- First of all, go to Punyakoti Dattu Yojane official website https://punyakoti.karahvs.in/
- Once you reach there, click at "Adopt a Cow" option or https://punyakoti.karahvs.in/cattlesForAdoption.jsp
- Then page for Cow adoption at Punyakoti Dattu Yojana portal will open.
- Select a Cow - Select one or more cows you wish to adopt.
- Fill KYC - Fill in the details and complete your online KYC process
- Pay for Adoption - Pay the monthly/annual adoption amount for the selected cow and get the e-receipt
- Get Adoption Certificate - Download the adoption certificate
- * If the selected goshala is 80G certified, you can avail the tax exemption.
Donate to Goshala in Punyakoti Dattu Yojane (Check Gaushala List)
- First of all, go to Punyakoti Dattu Yojane official website https://punyakoti.karahvs.in/
- Once you reach there, click at "Donate to a Goshala" option or https://punyakoti.karahvs.in/goshalaList.jsp
- Then page showing list of goshala's in Karnataka will open.
- Select the name of goshala from Punyakoti Dattu Yojana goshala list.
- Select a Cow - Select one or more cows you wish to adopt. Proceed to next page where you will find form for donation to a goshala.
- Select Donation type (Maintenance, Infrastructure Development, developing value added products, cattle feed, medical expenses, equipment, labour and maintenance, grass land development), choose amount.
- Fill KYC - Fill in the details and complete your online KYC process

- You can select name of district, goshala, total number of cows in that particular gaushala, no. of cow you wish to feed and then click "Pay Now" tab.
- Then page for making payment for feeding a cow in a particular goshala in Karnataka will open.
- Here you can make payment and feed a cow.

- Preserve and protect the native breeds of cattle.
- Ensure goshalas are strengthened economically.
- Involve the public in providing care for cow, which also improves the wellness of the donors as it creates an emotional bond with the adopted cow.
How are Donations Utilized
- When you adopt a cow or choose to feed a cow for a specific period, the amount will be used to meet their feeding needs, ensure optimum health and care for the cattle.
- Any donation received towards goshala will be used for infrastructure development, maintenance of cowsheds, providing access to clean drinking water and various veterinary services including medical expenses.
Benefits as an Adopter / Donor
- You can visit the goshalas you have contributed to, name the adopted cow and spend quality time at the goshala.
- Your adoption/donation certificate is also your membership card to enable access to goshalas.
- Members will be notified and invited by the Goshala for its major social and cultural activities.
Know More About Adoption / Donation Process
- Once you donate, you will be considered as a member of Punyakoti Dattu Yojane.
- Donors who wish to can opt to have their name, address and telephone number displayed at the goshala.
- Details of adoption and membership are held confidential unless the donor wishes to display such details.
- Details of the donors will not be shared with other organizations without their permission.
- If there is any change in donor's contact details like email id or mobile number, the concerned goshala may be notified.
- The issue of tax exemption certificate is the responsibility of the individual goshala. The Animal Husbandry Dept. is not accountable for any lapses by the Goshala regarding this.
- Contributions can also be made towards an animal confiscated from an owner/transporter on account of violations under Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act 2021. However, in case of release of such animals back to the owner on directions of the Court, the amount donated shall be utilized for another animal. The donor shall be sent an intimation by the Goshala regarding this.
- In case of death of an adopted animal, the same will be notified to the donor by the Goshala and balance contribution if any shall be utilized for another animal. The donor shall be sent an intimation by the Goshala regarding this.
