West Bengal government started Krishak Bandhu Scheme 2024 to support farmers. The Krishak Bondhu scheme will provide financial assistance to all Farmers of West Bengal for agricultural purposes and to provide social security to the farm families in the event of untimely death of the farmers. WB Krishak Bandhu Scheme 2024-25 Installment Release

On 12th June 2024, CM Mamata Banerjee has released Rs. 2900 crore into bank accounts of 1.05 crore farmers. This is the 1st installment for Kharif Season 2024. Moreover, 2nd installment for rabi season would be released by the end of this year.

CM Mamata Banerjee wrote on X, "I am happy to announce that (apart from providing Rs. 2,900 cr. assistance to 1 crore 5 lakh farmers and bargadars across the state under the Krishak Bandhu Natun Scheme), we are also releasing today onwards a sum of Rs 293 crore directly to the bank accounts of our 2.10 lakh farmers who suffered crop losses due to adverse weather conditions during current Rabi season. This is done under our unique Bangla Shasya Bima (BSB) which is our unique crop insurance scheme where the State Government pays the entire premium for all crops". 

She added "Since inception in 2019, 3133 crore have reached the bank accounts of the affected one crore farmers! Jai Bangla!"

Krishak Bandhu Scheme in West Bengal Budget 2024-25

On 8th Feb 2024, Finance Minister presented WB Budget 2024-25 in which FM said "Under the scheme ‘Krishak Bandhu’ during 2023-24, financial assistance has been provided to more than 101 lakh farmers amounting to Rs. 2,762.94 crore in Kharif and Rs. 2,772 crore is disbursed to more than 101 lakh farmers in Rabi. More than 41 lakh new farmer beneficiaries have been added under Krishak Bandhu (Natun) Scheme through eight rounds of ‘Duare Sarkar’. Since inception of the Scheme in 2019, more than Rs. 18,147 crore has been disbursed".

FM added "Under ‘Krishak Bandhu (Death Benefit)’ Scheme one time financial assistance is given @ Rs. 2 lakh to the family members of the deceased farmers in the age group between 18 to 60 years. Rs. 554.26 crore has been disbursed to the family members of 27,713 deceased farmers during 2023-24. Since inception, more than Rs. 2,029 crore has been disbursed to legal heirs of 1,01,457 deceased farmers".

About Krishak Bandhu Scheme 2024

  • First component (Direct benefit) under the scheme includes financial assistance for cultivation purpose upto a maximum of Rs. 10,000 /- per annum and a minimum of 4,000/- per annum receivable in two equal installments during Kharif and Rabi seasons every year. 
    • Farmers with 1 acre or more of cultivable land are entitled for assistance of Rs. 10,000/- per annum. 
    • Farmers with cultivable land holding of less than 1 acre will get assistance on pro-rata basis subject to a minimum assistance of Rs. 4,000/- .
  • Second component (Death Benefit) includes one time lump sum grant of Rs. 2 lakh to the family of deceased farmer if farmer's age is between 18 to 60 years which would ensure social security to the bereaved family.
  • Farmers registered in "Krishak Bandhu" scheme get preference in the State Government's paddy procurement scheme implemented by the Food & Supplies Department. The State Government is planning to extend benefits of other farmer centric government schemes to the Krishak Bandhu registered farmers.
In January 2019, Department of Agriculture of West Bengal govt. introduced Krishak Bandhu Scheme. The main objective was to provide financial assistance to all farmers of the WB state for agricultural purposes and to provide social security to the farm families in the event of untimely death of the farmers. Recently the Krishak Bandhu Prakalpa scheme has been recasted into a new shape. It has now been renamed as Krishak Bandhu (Natun) Scheme. Hon'ble Chief Minister of West Bengal has started the new Krishak Bondhu (Natun) scheme on 17th June 2021.

Direct Benefits under Krishak Bondhu Scheme

Direct benefit under the Krishak Bondhu scheme includes financial assistance for cultivation purpose upto a maximum of Rs. 10,000 per annum and a minimum of 4,000 per annum receivable in two equal installments during Kharif and Rabi seasons every year. Krishak Bandhu Scheme Death Benefit Component

Under Krishak Bandhu Death Benefit component of the scheme, the state government provides one time lump sum grant of Rs. 2 lakh to the family of the deceased. This component of Krishak Bandhu Prakalpa scheme aims to ensure social security to the bereaved family. You must note that this amount is only given in case of death of a farmer between the age of 18 to 60 years.

Other Benefits of Krishak Bandhu Prakalpa Scheme

Farmers registered in Krishak Bandhu Prakalpa scheme get preference in the State Government's paddy procurement scheme implemented by the Food & Supplies Department. West Bengal state government is even planning to extend benefits of other farmer centric government schemes to the Krishak Bandhu registered farmers.

Krishak Bandhu Scheme in West Bengal Budget 2023-24

While presenting the West Bengal Budget 2023-24, Finance Minister said "Under the Krishak Bandhu (Natun) scheme, assistance has been disbursed to 88.79 lakh farmers in Kharif Season in 2022-23 amounting to Rs. 2477.51 crore. For Rabi season, disbursement has been made to 91.57 lakh farmers amounting to Rs. 2554.90 crore. More than 30 lakh new farmer beneficiaries have been added under Krishak Bandhu (Natun) through five rounds of Duare Sarkar. Since inception of the scheme in 2019, more than Rs. 12,500 crore has been disbursed". 

FM also mentioned "Under Krishak Bandhu (Death Benefit) scheme, one time financial assistance is given @ Rs. 2 lakh to the family members of the deceased farmers in the age between 18 to 60 years. Since inception, Rs. 1352.24 crore has been disbursed to 67,612 numbers of bereaved families. Also Rs. 481.44 crore has been disbursed to the family members of 24,072 deceased farmers during 2022-23".

Other Initiatives for Farmers

Finance Minister said in West Bengal Budget Speech 2023-24 that "Under Farmers Old Age Pension Scheme, 79,301 farmers are being benefited with pension amounting Rs. 1,000 per month for each pension under Jay Bangla Scheme".
