PM Janaushadhi Kendra Latest Update 

Central govt. is going to increase the number of PM Jan Aushadhi Kendras by March 2024. PM Jan Aushadhi Kendra opening initiative was firstly started in the year 2017 and govt. has opened 9000+ PMBJK centres till then. Now Indian govt. will cover 743 districts out of 766 districts and target is to increase the number of Janaushadhi kendras to 10,000 in these districts. People will then get medicines at very low price in every corner of the country.

In PM Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP), govt. sells generic medicines at lower cost through it PMBJP centres. The price of these medicines is 50% to 90% lower than that of branded medicines. Now the union govt. has decided to raise the number of Jan Aushadhi Kendras to 10,000 by March 2024. Quality of medicines, even being available at lower prices, is not compromised. Around Rs. 18000 crore have already been saved from the start of this PMBJP initiative. 

In December 2018, govt. has achieved the target of opening 3,000 PM Jan Aushadhi Kendras. In March 2020, the total number of Jan Aushadhi kendras reached 6000. Last year i.e 2021-22, the number of PMBJK reaches to 8,610. In this FY, more than 400 PMBJK have opened till January 2023. Thus the total number of Jan Aushadhi Kendras have reached 9000+. Now central govt. has set a target to increase the number of PM Bharatiya Janaushadhi Kendras to 10,000 by March 2024.    

At these Janaushadhi kendras, around 1759 medicines and 280 surgical equipments are present. In 2021-22, the central govt. sold medicines and surgical equipment worth Rs. 893.56 crore which had helped govt. to save Rs. 5300 crore. In the current financial year 2022-2023 till 30 November 2022, central govt. sold medicines and surgical equipment worth Rs. 758.69 crore which had helped govt. to save Rs. 4500 crore.
