SMILE scheme is a comprehensive scheme launched by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment provides for a component named Garima Greh Scheme. It exclusively provides for shelter to transgender persons with basic amenities like food, medical care, recreational facilities. Graim Grehs are well equipped to support Transgender persons in need of care and protection through individualised plans for their overall development.
Garima Greh Scheme Portal Login
Central government has created an online monitoring system on National Portal for Transgender Persons for the Garima Greh's to login using the username and password provided to them. The system is used to track the activities, beneficiary, staff details and other programmes being conducted at the shelter homes for the transgender community.- First of all, go to official website at transgender.dosje.gov.in

Objectives of Garima Greh Scheme
Garima Greh's primary objective is to provide shelter to Destitute & abandoned Transgender persons with basic amenities like shelter, food, medical care and recreational facilities. Besides, each shelter home for transgender persons will provide support for the capacity-building/skill development of Transgender persons.- To ensure the shelter home with facilities of lodging and boarding, clothing, recreation, medical and counselling.
- To maintain the uniformity in terms of infrastructure, manpower services in the Garima Greh.
- To safeguard the rights of Transgender persons and protect them from atrocities.
- To confirm the prevalence of congenial atmosphere in the Garima Greh by adopting uniform rules and regulations suitable to be followed by all Transgender persons.
- To empower a Transgender person through skill-development and skill-upgradation programme.
Need for Garima Greh Yojana : Shelter Homes for Transgender Persons
To safeguard the rights of Transgender persons and protect the interest of the community, there is a prime need to establish Garima Grehs for the Transgender community. Section 8(4) of the TG Act 2019 has mentioned that the appropriate Government shall take steps for the rescue, protection and rehabilitation of transgender persons to address the needs of such persons. The establishment of Garima Greh will also align with the provision laid down under Section 12(3) of the TG Act 2019 which says that whether any parent or a member of his immediate family is unable to take care of a transgender, the competent court shall by an order direct such person to be placed in the rehabilitation centre.Garima Grehs will not only ensure that the community has access to a safe and secure environment, it will also go a long way in the empowerment of transgenders. Presently, there are many welfare schemes for the vulnerable groups, but a huge section of the community doesn’t have access to basic facilities including proper housing facilities. There is an urgent need to start transgender shelter home (Garima Greh)facility with the inbuilt provision of skill development.

Functions of Garima Greh Scheme
- Shelter Home - Garima Greh provides for food, medical care and recreational facilities among other things for the overall development of the residents.
- Health and Referral Services - Garima greh provides for weekly health check-ups, health camps to ensure that the residents are healthy and well
- Liasoning & Coordination - Garima Greh acts as a facilitator to ensure that resources are mobilised to ensure that local NGOs, schools, organizations are networked to provide best opportunities for the welfare of residents
- Skill Development Training - Skill training in the form of tailoring, beauty course etc. through in house training and with the help of outsourced organisation is conducted to equip the residents with market oriented skills
- Livelihood Opportunities - Garima Greh provides opportunities for the residents to gain employment in various sectors based on their skills and interest.
- Common Service Centre - Garima Greh acts as a common service centre by assisting beneficiaries to avail social security schemes, Transgender persons certificate & ID card.
- Psychological Services - Garima Greh provides psychological services to Transgender persons in the form of group, family, individual counselling
- Safety and Security - Garima greh is fully covered with CCTV cameras and is safe for all the residents
