TS Finance Minister said "It is no exaggeration to say that the golden age of welfare is ushered in by the TRS government. The government has reduced the age limit for Aasara pensions from 65 to 57. For Aasara pensions, the government proposes an outlay of Rs. 12,000 crores".
In October 2019, the TS govt. had set up Aasara call centres under the supervision of Panchayat Raj and Rural Development minister at Khairatabad through which those with grievances could dial the phone numbers and lodge their complaints. The phone numbers were set up for 10 districts. The minister said that it would expand to other districts soon.
The welfare scheme has not had a good run ever since its launch in 2014. Many reports of pensions not being given on time or no pension at all have surfaced in various media reports. Around three hundred people protested about the uncoordinated handling of the welfare pension scheme. According to the protestors, many who are eligible for the scheme have been running from pillar to post but in vain.

Aasara Pension Scheme in Telangana Budget 2023-2024
While presenting the Telangana Budget 2023-2024, finance minister allocated Rs. 12,000 crores to Aasara Pension Scheme. Aasara Pension Scheme Launch
Telangana government launched Aasara Pension Scheme earlier on 8 November 2014 in Kothur in Mahboobnagar district. The welfare scheme provides pensions to old people, widows, patients suffering from elephantiasis, AIDS, physically disabled persons, beedi workers and single women. Aasara Pension Yojana Amount
Telangana government was providing security and livelihood to helpless poor through Aasara pensions.The government in united Andhra Pradesh was giving only Rs. 200 pension, which was hiked to Rs. 1000 after formation of TS state and then to Rs. 2,016 by the Telangana government. Old aged, widows, weavers, toddy tappers and AIDS patients are now getting Rs. 2,016 p.m.
Disabled people were given only Rs. 500 in united Andhra Pradesh, which was hiked to Rs. 1500 at the time of formation of Telangana state and then raised to Rs. 3,106 by the state government. Now the TS govt. has decided to further raise assistance amount for disabled people by Rs. 1000. From July 2023, the disabled persons are getting Rs. 4,016 p.m.

As per the audit report of 2019-2020, the Telangana state government is spending 98.80% towards pensions while the central government is contributing only 1.20%. TS Aasara Pension Scheme Exclusion Rules
Persons belonging to families fulfilling one or more of the following condition's mentioned here shall not be eligible for Social Security Pensions (Aasara Pensions Scheme) in Telangana.
- Having land more than 3.0 acres wet / irrigated dry or 7.5 acres dry.
- Having children who are Government / Public sector / Private sector employment / Out-sourced / contract.
- People having children who are doctors, contractors, professionals and self employed.
- Having large business enterprise (oil mills, rice mills, pumps, rig owners, shop owners etc.)
- People who are already receiving Government pensions or freedom fighter pensions.
- Owners of light and/or heavy automobiles (four wheelers and big vehicles).
- Any other criterion in which the verification officer may assess by the manner of lifestyle, occupation and possession of assets rendering the household as ineligible.
- Annual household income is more than Rs. 1.50 lakhs in rural areas and Rs. 2 lakhs in urban areas.
