Illam Thedi Kalvi Scheme 2.0 in Tamil Nadu Budget 2024-25
On 19th Feb 2024, Finance Minister presented Tamil Nadu Budget 2024-25. While delivering the TN Budget speech, FM said "During the COVID pandemic, it was not just
the physical confinement of children within four walls of
their homes but also their educational aspirations. The
Hon'ble Chief Minister launched the 'Illam Thedi Kalvi' programme aimed at bringing the dropout children back
to schools and bridging learning gaps. This initiative,
implemented by volunteers in all habitations throughout
the State, has significantly contributed to recovery of
learning loss among children. A sum of Rs. 100 crore has
been allocated in the Budget for implementation of the
second phase of this scheme, in select focus areas, in the
next academic year".

Initially, Tamilnadu Illam Thedi Kalvi Scheme will be implemented in 12 districts:-- Cuddalore
- Dindigul
- Erode
- Kancheepuram
- Kanniyakumari
- Krishnagiri
- Madurai
- Nagapattinam
- the Nilgiris
- Thanjavur
- Tiruchy
- Villupuram
Tamil Nadu Illam Thedi Kalvi Scheme would later be extended to other districts.
TN Illam Thedi Kalvi Scheme Apply Online
Willing volunteers can apply at https://illamthedikalvi.tnschools.gov.in/Welcome. Volunteers teaching classes 1 to 5 should have completed Class 12 education and those teaching classes 6 to 8 should be a graduate. Awareness programmes to stress on the importance of the TN Illam Thedi Kalvi Scheme are also in the books. A logo designing competition has also been announced and the public can submit their works at illamthedikalvi@gmail.com. To participate in TN Education at Doorsteps in English scheme, applicants can fill volunteer registration form by following some simple steps.
- First of all, you can visit official website illamthedikalvi.tnschools.gov.in
- At landing page of TN Schools Illam Thedi Kalvi Portal, interested applicants can click at the link "Click Here to Start the Volunteer Registration Form".
- Enter basic information first like full name, gender, mobile number, date of birth, whatsapp number, e-mail ID, aadhar card number.
- Enter residential address details like district name, local body, village or ward, your address, pin code, where do you wish to volunteer. Next enter educational and professional details like education qualification, professional status.
- As final step, agree to conditions and click at "Submit" button to submit the completely filled in Tamilnadu Illam Thedi Kalvi Scheme volunteer registration form.
Volunteer student ratio would be 1:20 and over one lakh volunteers are expected to join the initiative. Persons who have studied up to Class 12th can teach students of Classes 1st to 5th and degree-holders can teach middle school students. Parents are forthcoming and register themselves as volunteers, apart from members of local NGOs. Around six hours of classes will be held through the week for every cohort of students.
