Asom Mala Scheme 2.0 Announcement in Assam Budget 2024-25

PM Narendra Modi has launched Asom Mala Scheme 2024 for development of infrastructure. This is a major program for state highways and major districts roads in Assam state. The new Assam Mala Yojana launch has taken place at Dhekiajuli in Sonitpur district in Assam. Also Prime Minister Modi has laid foundation stone of 2 hospitals.

Asom Mala 2.0 in Assam Budget 2024-25

On 12th February, Finance Minister presented Assam Budget 2024-25. While presenting the budget, FM said "Speaker Sir, driven by success of projects under Asom Mala, the next phase of road network covering 1000 km is being taken up under Asom Mala 2.0. The focus of Asom Mala 2.0 is to provide interlinkage between existing well-developed National Highways and Rural Roads. Under this, the 43 priority roads are identified, based on Assam Road Network Master Plan which include 38 bridges covering 28 districts. The implementation of Asom Mala 2.0 begins in March 2024. This project will cost around Rs 3500 Crores. In addition, it gives me immense pleasure to highlight that a few ambitious projects which are at different stages of implementation".

FM added "With launch of Asom Mala 2.0 and taking up many iconic projects, big push to infrastructure has been given. This will have multiplier effects, helping common citizens of the State".

Asom Mala Scheme 2024 Launch by PM Modi

To provide information about Asom Mala Scheme 2024 launch, Pradhan Mantri Narendra Modi has made a tweet from his official twitter handle. PM wrote in his tweet "I am among the people of Assam. At a programme in Dhekiajuli, Sonitpur district, the 'Asom Mala' programme is launched, which will boost the state's road infrastructure. This initiative will contribute to Assam's economic progress and improve connectivity," PM Modi tweeted.

Foundation stones for medical colleges and hospitals in Biswanath and Charaideo laid along with launch of Asom Mala Scheme. This will boost Assam's health infrastructure. In the last few years, the state has made rapid strides in healthcare. This has benefited not only Assam but also the entire Northeast.


Asom Mala Scheme to Improve Highways / Roads Network

Asom Mala Scheme aims to help in improving state highways and major district roads network in the state. The Asom Mala programme is unique for its emphasis on effective maintenance through continuous field data collection and its linkage with the Road Asset Management System (ROMS).


PM Modi Tweet Making Announcement of Assam Mala Scheme

PM Modi had put out another tweet in which he say "Glad to see the immense enthusiasm in Assam. Happy to be getting yet another opportunity to be in Assam. We will continue to work for Assam's all round development".

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma was also present at the launch event of Asom Mala Scheme. The two medical colleges and hospitals are being set up at Biswanath and Charaideo at a total estimated project cost of over Rs 1,100 crores. Each hospital will have a 500-bed capacity and 100 MBBS seat capacity. The increase in the number of medical colleges and hospitals will not only mitigate the shortage of doctors in the state but also make Assam a hub for tertiary care and medical education for the entire North-Eastern region.

At the same day, Prime Minister dedicated the LPG import terminal built by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited to the nation in Haldia, West Bengal. PM also lay the foundation stone of key infrastructure projects in Haldia, West Bengal.

Asom Mala Scheme in Assam Budget Speech 2023-24

Finance minister presented Assam budget 2023-24 on 16 March 2023 in which she said "The road network in Assam is getting strengthened and upgraded with the initiative of our Government under the "Asom Mala" programme. 18 works of length 343 km were taken up under its SOPD component for upgradation. The Extradosed PSC Bridge over River Brahmaputra connecting Guwahati and North Guwahati has achieved 66% Physical progress till date".

FM also said "Another major bridge over river Brahmaputra connecting Palashbari with Sualkuchi has also been sanctioned for an amount of Rs. 3197.20 cr and work is going to start very soon. The elevated road project on R.G. Barua Road and AT Road at Maligaon have progressed 40% and 58% respectively. This will, to a great extent, realize our Prime Minister’s dream of Transformation through Transportation".
