The prime goal of Bhagyalakshmi scheme is to promote birth of girl children in below poverty line (BPL) families. This scheme will raise status of girl child in the family as well as in the society.

In the Karnataka Bhagya Lakshmi Scheme, govt. will provide financial assistance to girl child. This assistance amount is to be given through mother / father / natural guardian subject to fulfillment of eligibility criteria.

Karnataka Bhagyalakshmi Scheme 2024 Latest Update

21 July 2024 Update - For the first time, 8,882 beneficiaries in Dharwad district is set to get financial assistance under Bhagyalakshmi scheme, which was launched by the state govt in 2006–07 to improve the status of girl children. The scheme aims to combat female foeticide, prevent child marriage, promote education of girl children, and improve sex ratio. The benefits of the scheme are restricted to two girl children from below poverty line (BPL) families.

Under the Bhagya Laxmi Yojana, the Karnataka govt deposits fixed amounts in the name of the beneficiaries. After completion of 18 years, the beneficiaries will get the maturity amount along with the interest. According to sources, a total of 8,882 beneficiaries have registered for the Bhagyalakshmi scheme in the district. Of these, 1,719 beneficiaries are in Dharwad Rural, 928 in Hubballi Rural, 2,741 in Hubballi-Dharwad City, 1,137 in Kalaghatagi, 1,152 in Kundagol taluk, and 1,205 in Navalgund taluk. 

The child development project officer (CDPO) has instructed all taluk officials to collect necessary documents from those who have completed 18 years, and the maturity amount with interest will be credited to their accounts on priority. 

Who are Karnataka Bhagya Laxmi Yojana Beneficiaries?

Karnataka Bhagya Lakshmi scheme aims to financially help BPL families to raise their girl children comfortably. However, to be eligible for the scheme, the parents of the girl child must fulfill certain conditions. 

• Female children born after 31-3-2006 in BPL families are eligible for the benefits under the Karnataka Bhagya Lakshmi scheme. 
• A child can be registered with the scheme within one year of her birth. 
• In order to get the amount, the beneficiary must have to produce the following documents:-
• Original Bhagyalakshmi bond received in 2006-07, 
• Class 8 certificate, 
• BPL card 
• Beneficiary's parents should not have more than three children. 
• The beneficiary should not be part of child labour. 
• She must not be married before the age of 18. 

Bhagya Laxmi scheme beneficiaries will get financial assistance, health claim, loan for education, etc. under the scheme.

The main objectives of Karnataka Bhagyalakshmi Scheme are as follows:-

Karnataka Bhagya Laxmi Yojana Eligibility Criteria

All the applicants must fulfill the following eligibility criteria to avail benefits of Karnataka Bhagya Laxmi Yojana:-

• Girl children belonging to BPL families and born after 31 March 2006 are eligible.
• The birth enrollment should be done upto 1 year of the birth of the child on the submission of the birth certificate.
• Bhagya Laxmi Yojana is only for 2 girl children of BPL family.
• Girl must not be a child labour.

In addition to this, immunization of girls should have been done as per the health department programme. To become eligible for the maturity amount, it is compulsory that the beneficiary completes 8th standard and she should not have been married off before she reaches the age of 18.

Karnataka Bhagya Lakshmi Yojana Benefits

The benefits under Bhagya Lakshmi Yojana in Karnataka are described below:-

1. Each BPL girl child will get health insurance cover upto max. of Rs. 25,000 per year.
2. The annual scholarship of Rs. 300 to Rs. 1,000 upto 10th class is given to BPL girl children.
3. Bhagya Lakshmi Yojana will promote the birth of girl child in economically weaker families and to raise their status within the family and society.
4. Bhagya Laxmi Yojana to provide Financial assistance to the girl child through their mother / father / natural guardian upon fulfillment of above mentioned eligibility criteria.
5. In addition to this, parents will get Rs. 1 lakh in case of accident and Rs. 42,500 for natural death of the beneficiary. At the end of 18 years, the beneficiary would be paid Rs. 34,751.

Bhagya Laxmi Scheme Annual Scholarship Amount

The annual scholarship amount under the Bhagya Laxmi Scheme is given below:-

a) 1st to 3rd Class - Rs. 300 p.a for each class

b) 4th Class - Rs. 500 p.a
c) 5th Class - Rs. 600 p.a

d) 6th / 7th Standard - Rs. 700 p.a

e) 8th Class - Rs. 800 p.a

f) 9th / 10th Class - Rs. 1000 p.a
